Oranges are in season?

If you feel you have chosen the right orange, then dig your nails into the skin gently, to make sure you don't bruise it, but firmly enough to make your mark.

Lay back sections of the outer covering, exposing more and more of the ripe flesh. Look at the minor imperfection of bitter pith, and decide whether to accept that as a part of the whole flavour, or whether it needs to be remedied before proceeding.

There are times to carefully remove and examine segments, there are times to gulp large direct bites as you may with an apple. Try every way possible, then dream up other ways.

Never consider the sticky mess that is bound to cover more of you than you have tissues to wipe, and remember, tissues just stick to the mess also, so you will eventually need to shower.

Oh, if you aren't ready for really juicy oranges right now, better give them away - it's such a shame to have them go mouldy right in front of your eyes.

Oh, and if you find this orange leaves a little bitter aftertaste, you can always try again next season - there are so many different tastes available.
